grounds care

The following is from our grounds maintenance company, TRGear:

We appreciate the patience you have demonstrated over the past 5 to 6 weeks regarding the mulching of your beds, mowing of your lawn, fertilizing and weed control of your lawn and management of the weeds in your beds. Over the past 37 days; 21 of those have been rain days totaling almost 5” of rainfall. At times we have been able to perform minimal service on the rain days however we have to be careful. Obviously we don’t want to tear up your lawns with mowing equipment and obviously we can’t spray weed control on the lawn or in the landscape beds; it needs to be as dry as possible to get the full effect. In a lot of cases we will pull the weeds in the landscape beds by hand. It won’t be long and we will be pruning your shrubs and planting flowers. Our crews have been working Saturdays and Sundays to take advantage of any dry and sunny days that present themselves. Eventually there will be an assigned day that the crew will be at your property however currently it may vary one or two days until the rain becomes less frequent. Thank you again for your patience and as always feel free to contact me at any time.
Please let me know if you have concerns.

Any reason they are not mowing behind the walking trail again this year??? I think we need to revisit the walking pathway upkeep. It looks terrible, the trees are overgrown. It should be discussed at the next board meeting to make a motion to sell the property to the homeowners. It would save alot of money in lawn maintenance and look alot better. I hate to keep maintaining the property, especially when I am paying alot of money in association fees to maintain the area.

Anonymous - thanks for the input. We have 3 options:

- pay TRGear for the service ... but people are already unhappy with the fees
- sell the property ... but no one has volunteered to lead that effort (is it possible? will everyone agree? what are tax/legal implications? etc.)
- we maintain it ourselves ... but no one has volunteered to coordinate that

please contact me directly (rianniell@gmail.com) if you are interested in heading up any of these or if you have another option ... i'm very open to input

I can't see everyone agreeing to buying the land behind the trail, and it raises the question/ issue of liability occurring while people are walking on your property. I am happy with everyone just mowing the property they do own! This the first year we've "let the trail go" but only because we were 1 of the few maintaining ours for the past 5 years. I see very, very little foot traffic on the trail, but would gladly let them borrow my tools to maintain it. I would rather see our energies fix up the entrance after the construction. I dug up the daylillies and even split them this spring to "double our money". More can be split in the fall (They are very happy in my garden if you guys decide you want to plant something else~wink~) I am trying to think of a way to put a fun spin on the back trail but I can't. Eventually it will need addressed (like mulching, etc) WE need creative energies and suggestions for how to make those funds appear. AS a back trail lot owner, it is hard to see the pay go up and the promises that Ryland gave us (which were not feasible w/ the budget) not honored. I am now trying to come up with Plan C (Plan B for my is the front entrance and Plan A was last year when I told myself to get over the trail thing). This is our neighborhood, not the boards. It's a lousy volunteer position. I want to support them and provide some ideas. I appreciate the consideration of the neighbors and the ideas "anonymous" brought to the table. Keep the ideas coming!

I thought that TRGear was already being paid to maintain the property around the walking trail. So the homeowners around the lake receive lawn care/mulching behind there homes. However, all homeowners pay association dues - shouldn't all the public property be maintained. I understand the liability concern of people walking on other peoples property, so why not eliminate the walking trail and let the homeowners in front of said property care for that area. I would be happy to help out, let me know what I can do to help out. I know there are other homeowners with my same feelings.

Anonymous - as already stated, there are several ideas, just contact me directly so we can talk how you can lead us. I'm happy to get help. I've had people for and against each idea so it will take some leadership to work out the right approach and make it happen.

Rick do you know who actually owns the trail? Would that be Mason Fields.

I was under the assumption that the homeowners were to care for property up to the trail & beyond the trail was considered green belt and possibly city owned. Can anyone shed any light on that?

Personally I spray my section of trail with Round up and it looks pretty nice. Takes about 10 minutes. Once a year I'll prune back any low branches and toss them in the green belt.

The green belt is viewed by the condo folks as "their property". I know it's not. I was attempting to lay nice sod in that dead back area (green belt), when a lady came over from the condos and yelled at me for "dumping yard waste". I tried to explain, but she wasn't interested. I, personally, cannot have enough growth between me and thee! I am and will maintain to the trail. BUT if we had "trail days" or some sort of group effort, I'd be available. I am far more concerned with the entrance and people just mowing.
